We are delighted to welcome Yusuf to the club for the 2023/24 season and beyond!
Yusuf has represented several clubs from Bolton, Bradford and Brooklands having played North Hockey for most of his playing career. This has included coaching within the clubs and is currently, Assistant Coach and Team Manager for Brooklands Men’s 2s in National League Conference North and Head Coach of Bolton Men’s.
He is currently working on his portfolio towards the Advanced Coaching Programme (Level 3). This has led to Yusuf developing his coaching practice by working with Maddie Hinch (Olympic Gold GB), Mark Bateman (England Boys Under 18s Head Coach), Coach Pholo (South Africa Ladies Head Coach) and Moses Kagochi (Kenya Men’s Head Coach) amongst others. He is a Level 2 Umpire with aspirations of progression into the NPUA.
Yusuf’s background is in teaching/lecturing, specialising in English and teaching learners with additional needs. He is currently studying a Masters in Social Work at the University of Manchester. During his time there he coached the Men’s 4th team to win the BUCS Cup, a first cup for the hockey club in over 10 years.
Yusuf values team work and club ethos. Training should be fun and engaging. Every player should be challenged to improve themselves and those around them. He will be overseeing the strategic development plan for the ladies' sections working closely with George and Holly.
We are delighted that James has joined us this season to lead training for the Men's section. James is a very experienced coach with recent positions coaching East Cheshire U14 girls, Worcestershire HC Juniors, Crewe Vagrants Ladies 3/4s, Deeside ramblers Ladies 3/4s and Barton HC Juniors and Men's 3/4s. James is a Level 3 qualified coach and Level 2 qualified umpire.
James' primary role this year is coaching the Men's 3/4s and U15 boys on a Wednesday evening.
In the short term James is also coaching the Men's 1/2s in the later Wednesday slot.
Holly led Junior Coaching in 2022/23 and we are delighted she will continue in 2023/24.
Holly has been playing Hockey at Warrington for 14 years, with 5 of those including some coaching in the Junior and Senior sections. Holly has been a Junior Development Officer as a qualified Hockey Coach for 2 seasons, and has brought her experience and knowledge to Wilmslow.
With a background and profession around sport and teaching young children, Holly puts put an emphasis on making sure her children in sessions are developing through fun and enjoyment in their hockey sessions. With thorough detailled planning, she likes to bring activities to help all our children develop at their own pace through a range of drills which are then developed into games based hockey.
