Club Bulletin - January 2024

Welcome to the second half of the hockey season! Here are some quick reminders and the latest club news.

Quick reminders:

  • Please complete the club survey by this Saturday (tomorrow) - parents included! It only takes 5 minutes!
  • Shirt order window is extended - order your new shirt here
  • Club hats and umbrellas are in stock and for sale on Teamo. Coming soon: socks too!
  • Check out the Olympic Qualifier matches live on BBC Red Button/iPlayer until 21st January
  • Please sign up in Teamo to help marshal the Wilmslow Running Festival on 24th March.

Junior tournament on Sunday:

  • We’re hosting an U10s tournament on Sunday 21st Jan (from 1-3pm) with 12 teams and around 80 kids. The clubhouse will be open and Marco will be selling food.
  • Could you help out with setting up, organising, umpiring etc? David Byrne, Holly McCurrie and Dave Egan would gratefully welcome any members/parents/guardians who can help.
  • Please click the link for David Byrne below if you’d like to help.

Talent Centre accreditation:

  • We are taking part in EH’s TC accreditation process this season, led by Paul Boon, our Chair. A Talent Centre club is one that provides high quality provision for players at early talent development level.
  • There’s lots to do to put all the good practices in place, gather the evidence, lead discussions with EH, and most importantly be awesome ambassadors of the club when EH visit us
  • We hope and expect that becoming a TC will be a huge boost for our juniors section and for the reputation and future of our club.
  • Paul and team would welcome any and all help with the accreditation process and it’s continuing maintenance as we grow our club's capability and reputation.
  • Please click the link for Paul if you'd like to help.

Respect to umpires:

Welfare/safeguarding:

  • Please make sure your child has a safe method of transport to and from training and matches.
  • Any lifts given to junior players must have at least 2 adults in the car.
  • For the welfare of all members please conduct yourself on and off the pitch in a manner in keeping with our Code of Conduct
  • We’ll soon be moving some communications from WhatsApp to Teamo chat - for safeguarding and privacy reasons. More details to follow.
  • Please contact Jenn Middleton-Egan, our Welfare Officer, with any Welfare enquiries or issues: click the link for Jenn below.

Paying our umpires:

  • We remain desperately short of umpires for home matches and will soon exhaust the goodwill of our amazing volunteer umpires
  • We have decided that we have no choice but to pay umpires so we can access a wider pool of umpires and plan further ahead
  • All umpires will be offered payment according to their level of umpire qualification.

Driveway:

  • The holes in the driveway should soon be repaired. Our funding will stretch to patching but not to full resurfacing.
