Registration in Teamo

Once your child has attended a training session, please register on our membership system – Teamo. There’s no payment required at this stage, but it’s important that we know who is attending for safety and safeguarding reasons and for us to have your emergency contact details.

Registration is easy – click the button below (or the “Join Us” button on the website (top right) and enter a few details about you and your child.

When registering you’ll need to confirm your agreement to the club rules and policies (there is also a link to view them in the final registration page).

See the registration guides below for more help.

Please get familiar with Teamo and use it frequently to find out about upcoming training, matches and tournaments.

The short video below gives a short tour of the app and the basics of how to use it.

(NB Teamo is constantly evolving and improving so you might notice some small differences between the video and the latest version of the app.)

Communicating with you

  • WhatsApp: once you’re registered we’ll add you (with your permission) to the appropriate WhatsApp groups too. WhatsApp is already used by most parents/guardians and this is often the best way to share messages. Under 18s are not permitted in club-related WhatsApp groups for safeguarding reasons.
  • Teamo Mailing list: once you are registered in Teamo you’ll be added to our email mailing list (we encourage you to opt-in so you can receive newsletters and updates from the club.)
  • Teamo calendar: download the Teamo app for ease of access – you’ll be able to see the upcoming training and match events and be able to show whether your child is “available” or not. This is particularly important for matches and tournaments. You can even subscribe to sychronise your youngster's Teamo events to your personal calendar. (Go to "Calendar" (bottom right in the app), tap the pencil icon and select "Sync to Device")
  • Teamo chat: Teamo chat enables you to send/receive messages to coaches and other parents/guardians/members. (NB Any chat message sent to a junior is automatically sent to the parent/guardian too for safeguarding reasons.)
  • Notifications: please switch on notifications from the Teamo app on your phone and access Teamo regularly

Membership payments

The membership fee for 2025/26 for each child (U18) is £100.

The membership fee entitles your child to attend all the training sessions during the season (September – April) and be eligible for selection for matches and tournaments. (There is no fee for parents/guardians but we encourage you to join the club as a Social Member.)

The junior match fee for 2025/26 for each child (U18) is £5 per match/tournament.

The match fee applies to occasional friendly age-group matches and tournaments. The match fee is also payable in Teamo on the day of the match/tournament.

Make payments using our Teamo app

Teamo is our membership and payment platform (as well as our calendar and communications app).

When you decide to join your child to the club you’ll need to add a payment card to the secure wallet in Teamo to pay membership fees. To get started, tap your initials/photo in the Teamo app (top left) and choose Payments. Tap the card icon top right to add your payment card.

Click the link below for help on how to setup a payment card and make a payment in Teamo.

Notes

  • Junior membership: applies to those under 18 on the first day of the Membership Year. Junior members are eligible to play junior and senior matches (if aged 13 or above on the day of the fixture) and take part in junior and/or adult training as appropriate. Note that juniors aged 12 on the day of the fixture are eligible to play Development Team fixtures subject to club and parental approval (See regulation 7.2 of NW League Regulations).
  • Financial hardship: if you only earn a low or modest income or find yourself facing financial hardship that would prevent you from paying the full membership fee or match fees, please contact the Membership Secretary to help find a way for you or your child to continue to play hockey. For example, the club may be able to offer the Unwaged membership category or offer instalment payment options.

Equipment

Every player needs a hockey stick and we highly recommend mouth guards and shin pads for protection.

Hockey Sticks

We can lend a hockey stick to new joiners to enable them to start right away, but we then encourage parents/guardians to purchase their own new or used hockey stick.

The most important thing about choosing a hockey stick is to get the right size. The stick should reach from the ground to the centre of the player’s hip joint. Check with the sticks we have at the club to find the right size before buying.

There is no need to buy a new stick. Check out eBay and Vinted which often have very good value new and used hockey sticks.

The club can offer discounts on hockey sticks via our equipment sponsor - Crow HockeyClick here to see the sponsor details and discount code.

Unfortunately, it’s rare to find a high street shop which will allow you to try out a stick before buying, so sticks are often purchased online.

Mouth Guards (from Opro)

We highly recommend every child has a well-fitted mouth guard to protect their teeth and mouth. In fact, we will insist on each child having a mouth-guard unless we have written approval from a parent/guardian not to use one.

Getting a good quality, well-fitted mouthguard makes all the difference. We recommend OPRO mouth guards. OPRO are the official mouthguard supplier to England Hockey and their products come in a range of sizes, colours and prices.

Shin pads

Hockey uses a hard ball which moves at pace. Getting hit on the ankles and shins from time to time is inevitable and painful.

We highly recommend your child has a pair of hockey shin pads, which protect the ankles and shins. Football shin pads do not usually offer enough protections.

You can purchase hockey shin pads at most sports stores including Decathlon or online from Crow Hockey or 18Hockey.

Safety

Wilmslow Hockey Club takes the safety of players, spectators and coaches very seriously.

We carry out a risk assessment for training and have devised the following rules to address the main safety and safeguarding risks during training and matches/tournaments.

Please adhere to the rules and support the parent-helpers and coaches who carry out the arrival and departure attendance registers.

A trained member of the coaching team has access to a First Aid kit throughout the training sessions.

Training

You son/daughter is welcome to join in training sessions on Tuesday evenings before deciding to join the club. If you son/daughter likes it then after 3 sessions you’ll need to pay the membership fee in Teamo which covers all training sessions throughout the season.

Training sessions are designed in advance by the coaches and are based on the England Hockey “Junior Hockey Framework”.

We run training on Tuesday evenings throughout the hockey season (September – April).

  • U8s and U10s train from 5pm-6pm
  • U11s and U13s train from 6pm-7pm.

If you would like to help out with any aspect of training, you would be most welcome – whether you have played hockey yourself before or not.

We also run summer or masterclass events outside of the hockey season. There is usually a separate fee for these to cover pitch hire and coaching costs. All events are in Teamo.

Coaches

We have several coaches and helpers to support training and matches. All of them have an enhanced DBS check and the required England Hockey qualifications in coaching, safety and safeguarding.

We also sometimes have young leaders supporting coaching, under the guidance of a qualified coach.

David Middleton-Egan - Coach for U8, U11/13s

Dave has led Junior Coaching for Under 8s since 2022. Dave is a PE teacher with extensive experience of sports coaching and making training fun.

Dave has taken on the role of Juniors Club Captain from 2025 and will be working hard with coaches, parents and schools to grow the Junior section, retain our existing junior players and help the older juniors make a successful transition to senior teams around age 13.

Holly McCurrie - Coach for U11/13s

Holly has coached in our junior section since 2022.

Holly is a PE teacher and a qualified Hockey Coach since 2021. She is has also been a county Junior Development Officer since 2023, and has brought her experience and knowledge to Wilmslow.

With a background in sports education for young children, Holly puts an emphasis on making sure children are developing their skills through fun, engaging hockey sessions. With thorough planning, she likes to bring activities to help all our juniors develop at their own pace through a range of drills based on the England Hockey Junior Hockey Framework.

Roger Eden - Coach for U10s

Roger is an experienced player within the club and started coaching to help his children learn and enjoy hockey. Roger gets great satisfaction from seeing all the juniors develop the skills and also their personalities thorugh hockey.

Jim Garside - Assistant Coach for U8s, U11/13s

Jim is a longstanding player and committee member at the club and enjoys supporting our experienced coaches during junior training.

Jim has the introductory Hockey Coach training qualification and takes great pleasure in seeing our juniors develop and grow as players - often transitioning to our senior sides and flourishing in our top teams.

Matches and Tournaments

We organise occasional friendly age-group matches and tournaments.

Check the calendar in Teamo for upcoming events and mark your child as “Available” if they would like to play (or unavailable if not, so we know). Please keep availability up to date in Teamo at least one week ahead to allow coaches to select the team and arrange logistics.

When your child is selected for a match or tournament, you will receive confirmation on Teamo. If your child is no longer available (e.g. sickness) please let the coach know ASAP. The location, timing and logistics can be found in Teamo – tap the event in the calendar. There is usually a match fee of £5 per child for each of these.

Matches and tournaments are usually organised in the following age-groups:

  • Under 10s (mixed)
  • Under 13s (mixed)
  • Under 15s (mixed) - we currently don’t have enough U15s to make up a team but this will change in future.

Note that hockey uses “rolling substitutions”, meaning players can be substituted on and off the pitch multiple times during a game..

At least one coach or parent-helper will attend a match or tournament – to support the team from the side-line and manage substitutions.

Could you help out from time to time?

Parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to help-out from time-to-time as this makes a big difference. For example:

  • Perhaps you could help shepherd the team from one pitch to the next in a tournament?
  • Perhaps you could help manage the substitutions from the side line.
  • Perhaps you would like to learn how to umpire?
  • Perhaps you could take the training register on a Tuesday?

We can help with training and support for all of these.

Welfare and Safeguarding

We take the welfare of junior players very seriously and believe all young people participating in hockey (regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability) have the right to play in an environment free from poor practice, abuse and harm.

Wilmslow Hockey Club adopts England Hockey’s Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Hockey Policy, Procedures and Guidance to ensure all those in the hockey family have a safe and positive experience.

All Managers and Coaches for Junior teams are DBS checked, as well as Coaches and Captains (or delegate) in Senior teams - as many Senior teams have junior (13 years plus) players. All coaches are required to attend a Safeguarding Workshop. Captains (or delegate) are required to attend a basic safeguarding awareness course.

Please contact our welfare officer if you have any concerns about welfare of safeguarding at Wilmslow Hockey Club by clicking on the Welfare Officer details below.
