Invitation: Phoenix SGM 27th Sept

Invitation: Phoenix SGM 27th Sept

Notice of Special General Meeting

Wilmslow Phoenix Sport Club

7:30pm Friday 27th September 2024, Phoenix Clubhouse

All members of Wilmslow Phoenix Sports Club (WPSC or the “Club”) - which includes ALL members of Wilmslow Hockey Club and Wilmslow Lacrosse Club - are hereby invited to attend and vote at a Special General Meeting (SGM).

The Council of the Club recommends that Wilmslow Junior Sports (WJS) joins the Club as a “Provisional Section”. The Council believes this is in the best interests of the Club and the Club’s members. Under the Club Constitution, such a decision requires a majority of eligible members to vote in favour at an SGM.

Please do your best to attend - to help determine the future of our Club and support the volunteers who help run it!

RESOLUTION FOR THE SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

The Club will admit Wilmslow Junior Sports (WJS) to the Club as follows:

  • WJS becomes a “Provisional Section” within the Club for 10 years (duration to enable grant applications)
  • Year 1 (2024/25): WJS pays £1,000 for use of 2 junior pitches
  • Wilmslow Football Academy ceases to operate at Oakwood Farm
  • Provisional Status for WJS ratified at next AGM (May 2025)
  • Year 2 (2025/26): WJS pays £2,000 for use of 4 junior pitches
  • “Constituent Status” for WJS to be recommended at following AGM (May 2026)
  • Year 3 onwards: WJS pays the full Constituent Section fee (currently £4,200 as Hockey and Lacrosse already pay) and use more pitches.

RATIONALE

  • Lindow Cricket will leave the Club in 2 years, with no obvious replacement
  • Phoenix will not be viable without income from other sports
  • WJS have a thriving junior football club and need a new home – they can provide valuable membership income, potentially grants (some already provisionally approved) and committed social events
  • As WJS play matches on Saturday mornings, there is sufficient grass pitch capacity for both WJS matches and lacrosse matches on the same day
  • WJS will replace Wilmslow Football Academy (WFA) who are competitors. The future potential and income of WJS for the Club is greater than with WFA
  • WJS participants will use the Wilmslow Albion car park to avoid congestion.

If you have questions in advance of the SGM, please contact Paul Boon, Alan Murdoch or Clive Perrin.
