Ladies 2s vs Lymm 2

Written by donkey of the match - Jenn Haynes

A balmy 12 degrees in Lymm, saw us oldies stripping off the skins as our 16 strong team went into battle against Lymm 2s (the juniors of course, hard as nails as always, feeling no cold despite previous weeks playing in 3 degrees and driving rain were, for a change were appropriately dressed).

The first 15 mins went by in a bit of a blur as the opposition came out strong, with some robust defending and eagerness which saw them posting up, and winning balls ahead of us. As instructed by the umpire, a quick word to the 3rd umpire (Russ) on the sidelines, managed to miss what was to come!!!

A fumble at the top of the D as we took a penalty corner, saw Lymm capitalise with a long free ball, hoofed up the pitch and expertly collected by Lymm's goal hanger, and despite a 3 on 1, found the back of the net. One nil down after 10mins was not the start we hoped for, but a change in mindset across the team and a little more determination, saw some lovely triangles down the left wing, collected by Mabel at the top of the D, who somehow managed to miss the multiple pairs of feet in front of the goal to make it 1-1!!

2-1 down going into half time (who knows what that goal was all about!), saw some words of encouragement from the boss man and some must have Haribo's (other confectionary items are available) to refuel, which was all the encouragement we needed, or should I say our player of the match, Mabel, who once again picked up the ball at the top of the D, and smashed it into the back of the net, to the hysteria of those on the sidelines, so much so that my Garmin watch detected an accident and wanted to call my emergency contact!! 2 all, and the game was definitely on!

The sexy hockey of the second half, saw a further two goals from Thea, the first of which was picked up by SVD right in front of the goal, and therefore keeper, who selfishly knocked the ball onto Thea who was waiting on the post for a tap in. The fourth, saw some sexy linked up play, with Nic, Ruth and Ella expertly using the width of the pitch, allowing Thea to run the base line and make being a striker, look easy!

Final score 4-2, taking us to 2nd in the league! A week off next week for some limb recuperation, birthday drinking and marshalling before Chester 3s at home for our penultimate game before Christmas! Bring it on!!!!
